What is a Japanese Spider Crab?
The Japanese Spider Crab is a different species of crab that is usually found in the water bodies in Japan. The facts of this creature are as strange as the name. The leg span of this spider is said to be as long as 3.8 meters, which approximately is equal of 12.5 feet. The body is not very heavy; however the whole crab can weigh as 41 pounds. Apart from its eight legs, it also has two feeding arms.
Where can you find Japanese Spider Crabs in Japan?
These crabs are commonly found on the island of Honshu, and between the stretch of Tokyo Bay and Kagoshima Prefecture. However, the population of Japanese Spider Crabs has grown in the past few years, and these can now be found in Taiwan as well. These crabs live under the ground; some are found at the depth of 600 meters, while some can also be found about 50 meters below the surface. However, if you explore the Pacific Ocean, these are found at the depth of 150 to 1,000 feet.
Although this creature is known for its strange looks, the claws are really strong and can serious injury to an individual. Despite this fact, these crabs are eaten by many people. Hence, many tones are fished and sent to local vendors every month.
Usually, these crabs have a common color of dull red throughout, with white spots on the limbs. The front claws are quite taller than its eight legs.
