She spent some time in Rome where she came in contact with Julius Caesar and together they had a child Cleopatra and Antonywhich she claimed was his son. Caesar never represented her child as his heir. She returned to Egypt after Caesar’s assassination.

Marc Antony was a powerful Roman official whom she met in Egypt after her return. In views that her affair with Antony will bring fruitful results in relationship to Rome, she moved further in this relationship. However, Antony killed himself when he received mistaken news of Cleopatra’s death. They together had three children who ended up in Rome and were taken by Octavia Minor, the Roman wife of Antony. After his death, Cleopatra followed him shortly by supposedly letting herself get bitten by an asp in a basket of figs.

In popular culture, she was massively characterized as romantic historical figure and audiences in films have highly appreciated it right for centuries including the eponymous play of Shakespeare. At the end, her major role in maintaining Ptolemaic control of Egypt was unsuccessful and Rome ruled over the country within months after her ultimate death.
